Bucharest, capital of Romania, is a veritable Mecca for great music-making. Think Romania, and think classical music, come to Bucharest and the Main Man is, without doubt, George Enescu. He gives his name to streets, to orchestras and to a music festival of commendable ambition. The George Enescu Festival (also known as George Enescu Festival and International Competition), held in honor of the celebrated Romanian composer George Enescu, is the biggest classical music festival and classical international competition held in Romania and one of the biggest in Eastern Europe.

The George Enescu festival will reach its 22st edition this year, and it will take place between September 1 and 27, 2014 (28 days). The festival will include 150 events and will have a budget of over 9 million EUR, already approved by Romania's Government. Financing will come from Romania's Culture Ministry. As many as 14 large orchestras, 21 ensembles will hold 28 concerts, four opera show, two ballet shows, as well as 48 concerts will be attending within the international competition of the Festival.

Some of the world's most famous orchestras, chamber ensembles and opera companies will perform - some premiering new works - and juried competitions - will be held for piano, violin and voice.
