The Idyllic Grand Tour of Romania is one of our favorite tours, created especially for the tourists that wish to explore as much as possible from the beauties of Romania in one single tour. The aim of the program is to reveal some of the most beautiful landscapes of Romania, the most famous medieval towns and fortified churches, the most important cities and towns of our country, and includes a wide range of different elements, like museums or gastronomical programs, to create a complete, unique experience.

This tour is one of the best experiences for someone who comes for the first time in Romania and is interested in exploring our culture. Usually, the tourists that take this tour, return in the next two years to complete their Romanian experience with some other more off the beaten track tours, like rural village tours, gastronomical tours, active and adventure programs.

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome in Bucharest, the litle Paris. Bine ati venit!

Transfer from "Henri Coanda" International Airport to your hotel, in the city center. Depending on the time of arrival, tour of the Bucharest with our guide. We will visit most beautiful landmark and cultural monuments of the Romanian Capital and will step back in time on the streets that gave Bucharest the nickname "The little Paris". Welcome dinner in one of the best and famous restaurants in Bucharest, "Caru cu Bere".

Day 2: Bucuresti - Brasov, 209 km. The first steps on Vlad the Impaler\'s teritories. Beware!

In the morning,  we leave Bucharest and head north to Brasov through the Prahova Valley.  First stop in Sinaia (the "Pearl of the Carpathians"), a mountain ski resort where you will visit the famous Peles Castel and enjoy the beautiful landscape. From Sinaia,  you will continue to Bran Village and visit the "haunted" Bran Castel where you will feel the presence of Vlad Dracula "The Impaler" everywhere. After you solve the mystery, we head to the town of Brasov. On the way, we make a short stop at the Rasnov Citadel for a step back in time in the period of dark ages. In the evening we will arrive in Brasov. Free time for exploring the old center of the medieval town. 

Day 3: Brasov - Sighisoara, 120 km. Step back in to the medieval times.

We will start the day with a pleasant walk in the old city of Brasov. The guided tour will take you to the Black Church, the symbol of the city, and you will pass through one of the narrowest streets in Europe, the String Street. From Brasov,  we are heading north, and our first stop will be the village of Viscri, in which we will visit the fortified church Visci. The final destination of this day is  Sighisoara Medieval City a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the evening, we will make a short walk in the citadel.  

Day 4: Sighisoara - Gura Humorului. Crossing the idyllic Eastern Carpathians.

Breakfast and on the road we go. We leave Sighisoara and head to the Eastern Carpathians. In the morning,  we will visit  the Praid Saline, to enjoy some healthy and salty air. We then head northeast, and we will stop at the "Red Lake" for some pictures and a short story about the lake legends. On the route, some stops for pictures and time for enjoying  the landscape. Leaving from the Red Lake, you enter Moldavia and visit the Neamt Citadel. Evening/night (depending on weather conditions and the traffic) arriving in Gura Humorului. Check-in. B+D. 

Day 5: Gura Humorului - Viseul de Sus. 250 km. Religion, art and nature.

One day trip to the most beautiful of the Painted Monasteries in Bucovina (northern Moldavia) such as Voronet Monastery, Humorului Monastery, Arbore Monastery, Sucevita Monastery and Moldovita Monastery. Four of these monasteries are on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Bucovina,  we are going west to the Maramures County. On our road,  we will pass some unique and breathtaking landscapes of this attractive province of Romania. Taste a little bit of the Northen Carpathian air and admire the traditional villages in this area. Watch the traditional wooden gates. 

Day 6: Viseul de Sus - Sighetul Marmatiei. Nostalgic train trip - explorring the hearth of the wild Maramures Mountains.

Early in the morning, we will prepare for an adventure in the heart of the Maramures Mountains. Do not worry, we will take a ride with Mocanita. Mocanita is the forestry narrow gauge steam train pulled by a steam locomotive. It is more than 100 years old and one of the few still functioning forestry narrow gauge in Europe. On this 5 hour trip,  we will have a real adventure, one of the wildest and greenest mountains in Europe. A unique experience not to be missed. Around 15:00 arriving back in Viseul de Sus and we will take the road to the northern town in Romania, Sighetul Marmatiei. On your way, we will visit the Birsana Wooden Monastery - UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

Day 7: Sighetul Marmatiei - Cluj Napoca. Maramures county 2.0.

We will start our tour this day with a visit at the "Pain Memorial" in Sighetul Marmatiei. This museum was a political prison during the communist period, one of the toughest, where were kept the intellectuals and the politicians who were against the Communist Regime. This museum, will show the young generation the horrors that took place in this dark age of our recent history. You can still hear the unrest souls of the one\'s who died here, screaming from pain.After this unpleasant but necessary experience, we leave the town of Sighetul Marmatiei and visit the "Merry Cemetery" in the Village of Sapanta. The Graveyard is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its unique in the World. You will find out why when we will arrive there.  Don\'t want to spoil the surprise:)In the afternoon, we take a short tour of the city of Baia Mare and leave to Cluj Napoca, the Capital of Transylvania. 

Day 8: Cluj Napoca - Alba Iulia, 120 km. Cluj Napoca area - Trully Transylvania.

In the morning, the city of Cluj Napoca is waiting for us to discover its treasures. We will pass thru the old center, visiting the Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral and the Banffy Palace, now the Art Museum.   Before leaving Cluj Napoca, we will visit the Botanical Garden, and we will have enough time to relax or have a walk on the alleys and admire the beautiful flowers. At midday,  we head to the town of Turda where, and depending on the weather, we will visit the Turda Salt Mine or the Turda Gorges. In the evening,  we will arrive in Alba Iulia, a truly beautiful Citadel and the place where the Romanian Countries (Walachia, Moldavia and Transylvania) unified, forming the Great Romania in the year of 1918.  

Day 9: Alba Iulia - Sibiu, 115 km. 2000 years of history and culture, in one day.

In the morning, on our guided tour of Alba Carolina Citadel we will find out more about the history of Romania. Over the ages,  the name of the city was "Apulum" in the Roman period, "Balgrad" in the medieval times and Alba Carolina or Karlsburg when Transylvania was under Habsburg Empire. Here on the 1st of December 1918 was signed the Union of Transylvania and Romania.  After this history lesson,  we will be back on the road, heading south-east to Sibiu. On our way,  we will stop at the evangelist church in Sebes, a XIII-en century Gothic monument. In the evening,  we will arrive in Sibiu the former European Cultural Capital in 2007. Here, we will visit Astra Museum of Ethnography with its beautiful village museum, and we will enjoy a delightful traditional dinner in one of the best restaurants in town.   

Day 10: Sibiu - Bucharest, 280 km. Back to the capital - wild nightlife or just some rest.

On our way, crossing the Olt Valley, we will visit the old Cozia Monastery, an extraordinary historical and cultural place. Arrive in Bucharest. Check-in. Free time for shopping and dinner. In the night,  you can explore the wild nightlife of Bucharest, one of the most animated cities of Europe. Enter one of the clubs in the City center and party all night long. If you choose one of the clubs we recommend, you will although enjoy a free cocktail. Also you can book our extra club hopping guided tour of Bucharest with lots of free drinks included.Next day, you say goodbye to our idyllic Romania, but we are sure you will come back someday. Depending on the time of your flight, you can still have a walk in Bucharest or direct transfer to the Henry Coanda International Airport to go back home or continue your tour in Europe.
